Our farm

The Fotiadis family has been inextricably linked to pig breeding for a century.

The story of Fotiadis Farm begins in 1925, when Lazaros Fotiadis arrives as a refugee from the historical Pontus in Exochi, Pieria, Greece. Here, on the outskirts of the mythical Olympus, he started the breeding of the indigenous Greek Black Pig, the only pig bred in the entire Greek territory. Since then, our family has been inextricably linked to pig breeding and this tradition has now reached the 5th generation.

In a nutshell

The Black Pig

The Greek Black Pig is an indigenous treasure which is part of our historical and cellular memory. The Black Pig is an ancient inhabitant of the Mediterranean. Traces of the tribe in the Hellenic area date back to approximately 5500 BC. It is a domesticated breed and not a wild boar, although it has similarities with it in appearance.

The Greek Black Pig is an endangered species along with other indigenous animal breeds and Fotiadis Farm contributes to its rescue. The indigenous Black Pig breed tended to disappear due to the spread of intensive pig farming with new, improved and more efficient breeds.

Black pig breeding is semi-extensive. The result of this semi-extensive farming model is the production of excellent quality meat with high nutritional value.

Our vision

As the fifth generation, it is both an honor and a duty for us to be involved in and continue our family’s tradition of breeding the indigenous Greek Black Pig. We carry on with the same care, love, and passion – with a deep sense of responsibility and respect, both for traditional pig farming and for the processing sector.

Our vision is to grow and maintain our position in the market for alternative and high-quality food products in Greece and abroad. Our goal is to create the most identity-defining product of Greek gastronomy – for both tourism and consumers.

Our core principle is to offer consumers high-quality, alternative, and safe products – and we achieve this through:

  • adherence to tradition,
  • the importance of animal breeding with innovations in their diet to produce high quality and high nutritional value meat,
  • the continuous improvement of the meat products we produce as well as the development of new products,
  • the creation of a working environment dominated by respect, teamwork and love for our work,
  • sensitivity for the next generation and
  • respect for the environment that hosts us.

Quality Safety

Fotiadis Farm recognizes and respects the great importance of food safety and is committed to consumers and partners to produce and distribute absolutely safe products of high quality.

We implement a food safety management system based on the International Standard ISO 22000:2018, ensuring the safety of both our products and processes.

The quality and safety policy we follow is based on the following principles:

  4. Compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
  5. Selection of raw materials from certified suppliers.
